- Creativity: art, music and imagination are linked to the sign.
- Compassion: a soft heart that cares deeply for others.
- Duality: the two fish swim in opposite directions, the pull between dreams and reality.
- Spirituality: a sign tied to faith, dreams and the unseen.
- Adaptability: like water, Pisces flows around obstacles.

The Myth and Constellation Behind Pisces
In Greek myth, Aphrodite and her son Eros escaped the monster Typhon by turning into fish and jumping into the river Euphrates. They tied themselves together with a cord so they would not lose each other, and the two fish were placed in the sky to honor the escape. The story gives Pisces its meaning of love, loyalty and staying connected through danger.
The Pisces constellation is large but faint, shaped like a long V with a small ring of stars, called the Circlet, at one end. Its brightest star is Alpherg. A constellation tattoo of Pisces is one of the most subtle ways to wear the sign.

Turning Pisces Traits Into a Design
Because Pisces is the most imaginative sign, many people skip the literal fish and choose dreamy imagery instead: soft watercolor washes, flowing lines that look like water, a crescent moon or a small figure floating among stars. If you love music or art, a treble clef or paintbrush woven into the fish can show your creative side. Ask your artist to keep the lines flowing and loose, since stiff, rigid shapes rarely capture the gentle energy of the sign.
Matching Zodiac Tattoos
Zodiac designs are a favorite for couples, siblings and best friends. Each person can wear their own sign in the same style and size, or you can combine two glyphs or two constellations into one piece. Pisces pairs naturally with Cancer and Scorpio, the other water signs, and with its opposite sign Virgo, which balances dreams with practical care. Exploring other signs? Cost and Aftercare
In the US, a small pisces glyph or constellation usually costs $60 to $150 because of shop minimums. A detailed two fish or a color piece usually costs $200 to $600. See our tattoo cost guide. Keep the new tattoo clean, moisturize lightly and keep it out of the sun while it heals. Follow our tattoo aftercare steps, and read the US Food and Drug Administration page on tattoo safety before you book.
Tips for Designing Your Pisces Tattoo
- Show both fish: one fish alone loses the meaning of duality.
- Add movement: curving fish bodies feel alive and fluid.
- Keep constellations spaced: tiny stars too close together can blur.
- Use blue tones with care: blue and teal look great for water but need sun protection.
- Add your birthday: a date or birth flower makes it personal.
Ideas for Men and for Women
Women often choose fine line fish, watercolor waves and dainty glyphs on the wrist or collarbone, while men often choose koi style fish, bold glyphs or realistic water scenes on the forearm or upper arm. Pisces is the sign of empathy and imagination, which suits anyone.
